The Weirdo in Taiwan: Initiating Social Impact

The GX Foundation has deepened its educational outreach through The Weirdo in Taiwan project, producing 18 documentary shorts over three years. In 2023, the project invested NT$650,000 and used the documentaries as educational tools and materials for critical thinking lessons. The foundation collaborated with major enterprises, private educational institutions, academic centers, and school teachers to develop and implement lesson plans, reaching educational sites across Taiwan, from elementary and middle schools to high schools and universities.

One of the documentaries supported by the foundation, "About, I Dreamed of Lin Mo Niang Riding the Sea Waves and Throwing Trash into My Future Plastic, It Feels Real," won the Special Jury Award at the 2nd Taiwan Ecological Environmental Film Festival. The work presents various ecological themes while embracing diverse cultural perspectives, aligning with the festival's theme of "Realistically Presenting Taiwan's Ecology and Environment."

In its commitment to local education in Taichung, the foundation partnered with the Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office of China Medical University. Together, they offered the The Weirdo in Taiwan Film Festival Lecture and a general education course titled "Mainstream and Non-Mainstream Human Rights and Gender Issues," as part of the Sustainable Development Learning Week. Furthermore, the foundation collaborated with the Sociology Department of Tunghai University on the course "Post-Capitalism and Real Utopias—Learning from The Weirdo in Taiwan." Beyond local universities, the foundation expanded its educational outreach to high schools, including Shalu Vocational High School and Washington Middle School, engaging over 500 students. This initiative provided students with a unique perspective on social issues and integrated these topics into literacy education, fostering value-based critical thinking, inspiring reflection, and creating a network for social change.

SOGA STOP Action Plan: Caring for Environmental Protection

The GX Foundation launched the SOGA STOP Action Plan, starting with the most widespread and life-connected issue of plastic reduction, inviting the public to join in environmental and ecological protection efforts. The plan addresses six major environmental issues and collaborates with 53 graphic and visual artists to create impactful illustrations. The initiative features the campaign "Every Day Is Earth Day!" with 52 proposals for Earth-loving actions, presenting 52 different perspectives and dialogues to transform complex environmental knowledge into accessible, visual actions. Through creative reflection on environmental issues, the project garnered the Golden Pin Design Award from the Taiwan Design Research Institute, highlighting the foundation's success in merging environmental education with artistic support.

In 2023, the SOGA STOP Action Plan invested NT$1.15 million and partnered with 24 companies to promote both online and physical exhibitions, sustaining a year-long, continuous campaign for Earth-conscious actions.
